Stay Warm and Ready for Adventure

Packing for a winter getaway to Angel Fire is all about preparation, whether you’re bringing the whole family, planning a romantic retreat, or hitting the slopes with friends. With the right gear, you’ll be ready to make the most of your Angel Fire adventure—on and off the slopes!

Ski & Snowboard Gear

Tip 1:

No gear? No problem! All our local gear shops offers convenient ski and snowboard rentals right on-site. Bundle your equipment rentals with lodging to save and make your trip hassle-free.

 

Tip 2:

Be ready for all mountain conditions by packing different goggle lenses. Yellow lenses are perfect for overcast or snowy days, while polarized lenses work best for New Mexico’s bright, sunny skies.

  • Skis and ski poles or snowboard
  • Ski boots or snowboard boots
  • Goggles
  • Sunglasses
  • Helmet
  • Hand and toe warmers – 1 to 7 packs of each, or electric boot warmers
  • Hydration pack – or collapsible water bottle
  • Snacks 

Ski & Snowboard Clothing

Tip 1:

Be prepared for changing mountain conditions by packing plenty of warm layers, including moisture-wicking base layers, mid-layers, and a waterproof outer layer. If you forget something, don’t worry—stop by one of our many retail shops for everything from cozy apparel to high-performance ski gear.

 

Tip 2:

Don’t overlook the importance of quality gloves or mittens and a neck gaiter to keep the cold out while you’re carving through the powder!

  • Jacket – 1 to 3 waterproof ski jackets
  • Pants – 1 to 3 waterproof ski pants
  • Snowsuits – 1 to 2 waterproof snowsuits
  • Additional insulation – down or fleece vest
  • Base layer tops – 1 to 4 non-cotton base layer tops
  • Base layer bottoms – 1 to 4 non-cotton base layer bottoms
  • Gloves & mittens – waterproof and insulated ski gloves or mittens
  • Sweaters – 1 to 4 fleece or wool sweaters
  • Warm winter hat – beanie or baseball cap
  • Socks – 3 to 4 wool ski socks
  • Neck gaiter – non-cotton balaclava or ski mask

Mountain Casual / Non-Ski Clothing

Tip 1:

While Angel Fire offers a range of dining options, from casual eats to upscale experiences, formal attire like suits or ties isn’t required. A nice sweater, jeans, or a warm jacket is perfectly suited for the relaxed, mountain-town vibe of Angel Fire. You’ll fit right in while staying comfortable!

 

Tip 2:

Pack comfortable après-ski outfits, like cozy flannels, fleece-lined leggings, or stylish winter boots, so you can seamlessly transition from the slopes to dinner or exploring the village.

  • Hand sanitizer & small Febreze
  • Camera – Go-pro
  • Power cables for electronics – phone, computer, electric toothbrush, etc.
  • Headphones and batteries
  • Sports equipment for other outdoor activities – Such as snowshoes, Nordic skiing gear, hiking poles, etc.
  • Travel pillows
  • Foam Roller & Heating Pad
  • Hairdryer – good for your hair and for boots and gloves!

Toiletries

Tip 1:

When packing toiletries for your Angel Fire trip, focus on items that combat the dry, cold mountain air. Along with your basics, include a travel-sized humidifier (if you’re prone to dryness), a quality moisturizer, and a lip balm with SPF. These small additions will keep you feeling refreshed and comfortable.

Don’t forget a compact first aid kit with items like blister pads and ibuprofen—perfect for unexpected minor injuries or altitude-related headaches.

For any last-minute baby essentials, Angel Fire has a local store where you can grab necessities like diapers, wipes, and baby food. Taos also has a variety of grocery stores and pharmacies available.

 

Tip 2: When packing for kids, remember to bring extra snacks, entertainment, and layers. Keeping them busy on the slopes and comfortable off them will make for a smoother, more enjoyable trip!

 

Tip 3: Be sure to pack a travel-sized laundry detergent if your trip is extended, so you can quickly wash clothing if needed and keep everything fresh!

Baby List:

  • Changing Items – diaper bag, disposable diapers, changing pad, baby powder and lotion
  • Wet wipes
  • Feeding Items – formula, baby food and spoon, bottles and caps and bib
  • Pacifiers
  • Changes of clothing in carry on – tops, bottoms, and socks
  • Winter Clothing – Warm winter jacket, winter hat, mittens, sweaters
  • On the Go Items – Stroller, car seat, child-carrying pack
  • Sleep Blanket or stuffed animal 
  • Burp pads and wet bag
  • Bathing supplies – shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion

Kids List:

  • Keep food/water on hand at all times – granola bars, fruit and a refillable water bottle
  • Sleep Essentials – favorite blankets, stuffed animals, or pillow
  • Health Essentials – baby wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues, and a basic first aid kit
  • Entertainment – books for bedtime, toys, tablets, or drawing supplies.
