Maverick Campground

Maverick Campground is one of the scenic riverside camping areas within Cimarron Canyon State Park, located along the Cimarron River in the rugged canyon between Eagle Nest and Ute Park, New Mexico. This peaceful campground offers tent and RV sites nestled among forests with picnic tables, fire rings and hibachi‑style grills, making it a great spot for anglers, hikers and nature lovers looking to unwind close to flowing water and wildlife habitat. While sites accommodate smaller RVs and trailers (typically up to about 20–25 ft), the park’s serene canyon setting gives guests a true outdoor experience without the hustle of crowded campgrounds.

Although there are no electrical, water or sewer hookups, Maverick Campground provides two bathhouses with plumbing and flush toilets for comfort, and generators are allowed during daytime hours (quiet hours are observed overnight). Surrounded by the Colin Neblett Wildlife Management Area, campers often enjoy bird watching, creekside fishing for trout and easy access to nearby trails along Highway 64. Reservations can be made through the New Mexico State Parks system, and the campground is part of a larger state park network that also includes Tolby and Ponderosa campgrounds.
